The latest FLEX Templates release includes an improvement in loading performance for Article-to-Article navigation, plus improvements to PayPal purchase workflow, e-Edition help tour, Admin login on mobile devices, and a bug fix related to portrait images.
FEATURES
We are enhancing page loading performance for Article-to-Article navigation by implementing the Google Speculation Rules API to prerender the next and previous URLs with moderate eagerness. This optimization aims to significantly improve the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) score, providing a faster and smoother user experience when navigating between pages. For more information on how to enable Article-To-Article feature in Page Customizations for Design / Blocks, read our documentation here.
IMPROVEMENTS
A link for "Admin login" has been added to the
Utility: User controls modal
block. This allows BLOX administrators a quick way to log in to BLOX on mobile devices, to bypass paywalls or make changes. (FLEXBLOX-10332)We have corrected a usability issue with PayPal button purchase workflow. When PayPal was selected on the 1-page purchase form and an incorrect password was entered, the user was being redirected without an appropriate error message. Now users in this situation will stay on the page and see an error message that says, "Invalid password or account does not exist." (FLEXBLOX-10233)
We have made improvements to the web version of e-Edition help tour. In some cases, resizing the browser or relaunching the help tour would result in the windows being hidden or broken. (FLEXBLOX-10269)
We have enhanced the "Email: Weather Today" block for email newsletters to include the ability to display a local (asset) weather forecast, similar to the Weather: Index block. This block can now be placed as a static block or configured to pull in editorial assets. When static, it derives the weather forecast from BLOX weather data. When the block is configured to pull in editorial assets and the "use local forecast" property is enabled, the block will pull content from the first asset in the block and display it alongside the forecast. The content will preserve heading and paragraph tags, ensuring styles are consistent with the rest of the email newsletter. (FLEXBLOX-10312)
We've added several new social media fields to the Utility: Social Links block including E-Edition URL, Parler, Locals, Twitch, Spotify, Rumble, Apple Podcasts, and Odysee. (FLEXBLOX-10203)
We've updated the timeline presentation style for Collections to now display the "Description" field, addressing user feedback for consistency across all collection styles. (FLEXBLOX-10321)
Collection assets that were placed on a page in InDesign were not appearing as segments on the latest E-Edition skin (2022). This has been fixed, so these segments should now be visible and display the collection in the Live story viewer. (FLEXBLOX-10201)
In a previous design update, the "cancel anytime" text was hidden from the BLOX Audience+ walls and subscribe page blocks. This has been fixed and "cancel anytime" will now display again by default. (FLEXBLOX-10351)
BUGS
We've addressed an issue with portrait images in the "Editorial: Full article" block that caused them to render improperly, leading to larger, blurry displays. (FLEXBLOX-10343)
This release also makes minor infrastructure changes that should not be noticeable to admin or front-end users.
