This is a large appliance OS release. It contains a number of long awaited features and bug fixes for BLOX Total CMS users.
Warnings
Users that are only members of the Administrators group will get warning messages when logging in to the BLOX Total CMS client for Adobe InDesign or Adobe InCopy. To remove the warning, add that user to a second (or more) group. It is unknown how many people this might affect.
Included Software Packages:
- BLOX CMS version 1.38.7
- Page Tracker version 1.6.0
- Associated Press version 4.15.0
- Syndication Tool version 1.12.0
- BLOX Total CMS Client version 5.25.06
BLOX CMS version 1.38.7
Improvements and New Features
Batch Edit now includes access to Presentation Modes
There is a new Section Tag Map editor that will eventually be used with Smart Syndication (an experimental option in Appliance 2.21).
There is now the ability to include a Canonical URL that allows imported assets to point to the actual source.
Video Assets have a new Full Bleed Presentation Mode
There is a performance increase when using the Syndication Tool with hosted BLOX sites. The tool will no longer re-download images and other binary files (videos, audio, etc) if the BLOX Total CMS already has a version with the same modification date.
Webm files are now supported by the Video asset. Upload them and they will be converted to MP4 format for website use.
Additional image types can be imported as an image asset. The image data itself will likely be converted, but they can be imported. For example, you can now import .tif and .psd files. These will be converted to .jpg before the image asset is available for use. .bmp and .jfif are also now formatted. .png images with Alpha channels are now properly imported.
Bug Fixes
There were a variety of esoteric bug fixes in this BLOX CMS version but most were temporary items that never appeared in an Appliance based release of BLOX Total CMS. Others were internal issues that didn't affect users.
Page Tracker 1.6.0
The Page Tracker update contains several long anticipated changes.
Improvements and New Features
When viewing a PDF of a page from the Page View of Page Tracker the name of the PDF will be the name of the page according to your naming convention followed by a page asset revision number. In the past the PDF might have been called 12fa7d98e50a.pdf.1. It depends upon the site but now it might be PUB_2017-03-04_A_001_rev14.pdf. This makes it super easy to download the PDF and know the page name which is perfect for remote editing.
Pages in Page Tracker are now displayed in the Gallery View of Editions in Reader Spreads.
The Budget View in Page Tracker can now be sorted by Article Asset Depth.
When viewing Assignments in the Assignment tool, you can see the revisions of the assignment in the Info tab. To view the details of a prior revision, double-click on a revision and click the View button.
When a new domain is added, it will automatically populate all 26 possible sections. This will help with sites that thought they never used section J only to fine out 2 years later they need it and don't remember how to add it.
Bug Fixes
If a ruleset contained the text <table it could not be imported after export. This prevented sites from easily moving rulesets from domain to domain. This has been corrected.
If you delete a Page Tracker edition that has open tabs, its tabs will now be closed.
When you view a PDF in the Page window of Page Tracker, the PDF itself is no longer named with an incorrect file extension. It will now be .pdf.
Associated Press version 4.15.0
Improvements and New Features
There is a new auto sync routine that runs on appliances at 11 AM Saturday mornings to make sure that the disk and database versions of AP assets are in sync. This might take some time the first time it runs.
Associated Press provided images will automatically be set to not be purchasable by photo fulfillment vendors. (http://jira.sys1.vip.inn.mwn.leeent.net/browse/AP-266)
Bug Fixes
As Associated Press assets were imported into BLOX Total CMS via the Syndication Tool, it wasn't correctly setting the AP flag. This is now fixed.
If an Associated Press asset was updated the system would reprocess the high resolution image even if it hadn't been updated. This no longer happens and the performance of working with AP assets should be better.
A variety of problems were fixed with removing out dated Associated Press assets. Sometimes assets would be orphaned, sometimes the high resolution images were left on the disk. This should no longer happen and full use of the appliance storage should be returned.
There was an esoteric bug that caused some Print Only Associated Press items to have their internal Print Only flag unset. This has been corrected. The problem would have affected search result.
Syndication Tool version 1.12.0
Improvements and New Features
Slugs are now automatically imported when using RSS or MRSS channels to feed the Syndication Tool. If the feed uses a slug using a standard tag, it will be read.
RSS and ATOM based channels in the Syndication Tool will not re-download images if the images themselves haven't changed in the originating feed. This provides better performance for the entire BLOX Total CMS system.
Bug Fixes
The Depth field for assets didn't match the search parameters. This has been corrected.
Assets from RSS feeds that used an importer marked with both Import as Links and Open links as new window weren't getting the assets marked with the Open in new window. This has been fixed.
BLOX Total CMS Client version 5.25.06
The Client version 5.25.06-3 is included with Appliance OS 2.19.0. Lots of changes since the last client update of 5.19.40-6 which was included with Appliance 2.18.0.
