Starting in January of 2024, Google will require all sites using Google Ad Manager (GAM) to implement a Consent Management Platform (CMP) in order to align with GDPR and specific US state laws.
We're here to help! Read on for the essential details you need to navigate this transition.
What is a Consent Management Platform?
A Consent Management Platform (CMP) is designed to help websites manage user consent for data collection and processing activities. The primary purpose of a CMP is to provide users with transparency and control over their personal data.
Why is a CMP being required?
Due to the recent announcement by Google, beginning January 16th, 2024 all sites using Google Ad Manager (GAM) must have a Consent Management Platform (CMP) in place. This change is to ensure residents from the EU/EEA have the right to opt-in to tracking, aligning with regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
How does this relate to US privacy laws?
In addition to the EU/EEA regulations, a few states within the United States have implemented their own privacy laws. Our CMP deployment will also cater to the requirements of these state-specific regulations, ensuring that residents from these states can exercise their rights to opt-out of tracking.
How will this change affect me as a participant in BLOX Digital programs?
For BLOX YieldUp participants without a CMP, your site will be transitioned to our default integration with Google Consent Mode. This ensures compliance with both the new GAM requirement and state-specific regulations in the US.
I already have an independent CMP, do I need to switch?
No. If you already have an independent CMP that is compliant with both the EU/EEA regulations and the specific state laws in the US, you do not need to switch. However, you should ensure that your CMP aligns with the requirements set by GAM and the US state-specific regulations.
What other options are available for a CMP integration?
We offer the following options:
Default Integration with Google's CMP: This will be automatically applied unless you notify us that you have another CMP in place.
OneTrust CMP: If you are a user or wish to leverage our integration with OneTrust.
Custom CMPs like Osano: You can deploy custom solutions as per your preference.
What do I need to do if I wish to use a different integration?
For all other CMP options, please contact Customer Support for assistance and further review of the platform requirements.
What are the implications if my site doesn’t have a compliant CMP by January 16th, 2024?
BLOX Digital will ensure that a compliant CMP is in place by the deadline to avoid disruptions. Non-compliance or refusal to accept the default implementation may result in the restriction or cessation of ad serving on your site through Google Ad Manager and, by extension, removal from the BLOX YieldUp program.
How can I get more information or technical assistance regarding the transition?
