Our new college newspaper program is showing promising early results, with seven papers currently under contract.
The papers, each in different states, like BLOX's flexibility and potential to better monetize their websites. Other content management system providers for college papers limit revenue opportunities, and are often criticized for poor customer service. TownNews.com also can help campus media avoid the dreaded "whiz-kid syndrome." That's when a talented student implements a homegrown or open-source CMS that works well - until that student graduates or leaves the paper.
Mark Witherspoon, editorial adviser at the Iowa State Daily, suggested TownNews.com increase outreach to campus media after his first look at BLOX early this year. Witherspoon's paper has been a TownNews.com customer for a few years, as has fellow BLOX user The Independent Alligator at the University of Florida.
Joining their ranks since the new college program began in April are papers at the following colleges: Ashland (Ohio) University, California State University-Chico, New Mexico State University, Northern Illinois University, Northwest Missouri State University, Texas Tech University and Western Kentucky University. And several others are in talks with TownNews.com.
