Eight TownNews.com hosted newspapers were recognized for their websites in Suburban Newspapers of America's 2010 Community Website Contest in June.
Participants for the contest were community and suburban newspapers from across North America. Papers were divided into four circulation-based classes: A for dailies over 40,000; B for dailies under 40,000; C for non-dailies over 100,000; and D for non-dailies under 100,000.
North County Times, a Lee Enterprises publication in Escondido, CA, received runner-up for Best Local Community Website, Class A; runner-up for Best Site Architecture and Overall Design, Classes A and B; and 1st place for Best Overall Local News Site, Class A.
Star Local News, an American Community Newspapers publication in Plano, TX, received runner-up for Best Local Community Website, Class C.
Sioux City Journal, a Lee Enterprises publication in Sioux City, IA, received 1st place for Best Site Architecture and Overall Design, Classes A and B; runner-up for Best Use of Multimedia, Class B; 1st place for Best Overall Local News Site, Class B; and 1st place for Best Blog Initiatives, Classes A and B.
MinnLocal.com, an American Community Newspapers publication in Eden Prairie, MN, received 1st place for Best Site Architecture and Overall Design, Class C.
Arizona Daily Star, a Lee Enterprises publication in Tucson, AZ, received runner-up for Best Overall Local News Site, Class A.
Columbus Local News, an American Community Newspapers publication in Columbus, OH, received runner-up for Best Overall Local News Site, Class C and first place for Best Video Initiative, Class C.
The Mercury, a Journal Register Company publication in Pottstown, PA, received runner-up for Best Community Service Project, all classes combined.
Leesburg Today, an American Community Newspapers publication in Leesburg, VA, received 1st place for Best Video Initiative, Class D.
