Since its release, TownNews has monitored an issue with macOS 12.x (Monterey), which is incompatible with Adobe InDesign third-party plugins installed, including BLOX Total CMS.Â
Adobe released Adobe InDesign Creative Cloud 2023 in October. After testing against the new release, TownNews engineers also confirmed this version is incompatible with macOS Monterey. Our testing indicates that the current macOS 13.x (Ventura) and Adobe InDesign 2023 do not need any workarounds, and we recommend updating. Â
TownNews Development came up with an internal solution for Monterey with a prior client release earlier this year, and the latest release, 5.64, has an update for macOS Monterey. Development used Adobe InDesign CC 2022 for the internal solution coded for the Client. It's strongly recommended sites update to Adobe InDesign Creative Cloud 2022 or 2023 before updating to MacOS Monterey.Â
macOS User Interface Workaround Extended)Â The macOS workaround, initially added for macOS version 12 and Adobe InDesign version 2022, was extended to include both older and newer versions of Adobe InDesign. This change allows macOS workstations to allow normal mouse use with Adobe InDesign. An incompatibility would have normally required a user to use both mouse buttons to select menu items. In addition, the manual application of the workaround has been renamed to BLOX Total CMS > Update and Reset > Perform macOS Workaround. Our testing indicates that the current macOS 13.x and Adobe InDesign 2023 do not need any workarounds, and we recommend updating. INDESIGN-3959
New Menu to trigger the macOS 12.x workaround)Â If an Adobe InDesign user chooses not to log in to the BLOX Total CMS client initially, then the macOS 12.x (Monterey) workaround process will not run. We've added a menu item at BLOX Total CMS > Update and Reset > Perform macOS Monterey Workaround that will have the macOS Finder open the document we use. This workaround is only for Creative Cloud sites using macOS versions 12.x or newer. INDESIGN-3673
Currently, when Adobe Creative Cloud InDesign launches, the menus are unusable. However, suppose an InDesign document is opened from a user's desktop using The Finder, local server or Blox Total CMS appliance outside the InDesign menu. In that case, the menus work as expected. Please note this practice has to occur each time a user launches InDesign.
With that said, TownNews cautions all BLOX Total CMS sites that this is an unresolved Adobe issue and that this is only a workaround.
TownNews will continue to monitor this issue, and as soon as Adobe releases a fix, TownNews will update this advisory.Â
We thank you for your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.Â
