Bridget Sibthorp-Moecker, Director of Audience for BLOX Digital, answers all your questions about BLOX Digital's mobile-friendly multimedia e-Edition.
What is BLOX Live e-Editions?
BLOX Live e-Editions displays your print replica online, fully-integrated with your site. So updates you make to the web versions of your content can be mirrored to your e-Edition, keeping your readers up-to-the-minute.
Who is this designed for?
BLOX Live e-Editions is designed for any media publisher with a printed product. Whether it's the daily paper, weekly special section, monthly magazine, or an annual directory, BLOX Live e-Editions allows you to connect to your readers, both traditional and modern.
How does it work?
Convert your PDF files and link articles and images to their online counterparts. Or if you paginate with BLOX Total CMS, your print, mobile, web, and replica editions can all be built seamlessly and simultaneously.
What's changing for this refresh?
BLOX Live e-Editions has an all-new look and several exciting new features that our partners and subscribers have been asking for. The new layout includes your logo, improved navigation, added icons for print and puzzles, a reworked live view, and overhauled CSS.
How does this new user interface look on mobile devices and tablets?
We know that real estate on mobile devices is limited so we've maximized the navigation options. The most noticeable change comes when a reader is viewing a segmented article. The live view of the article will now be overlayed on top of the replica page, along with next and previous buttons. Readers can easily jump from article to article, or close the overlay and return to the replica view. For tablet devices, the e-Edition can display in landscape or portrait view. It looks similar to viewing on desktop with the new page peeks and the optional ad unit on the bottom.
How does the new puzzles button know where the puzzles start?
There are two ways to link the new puzzles button. One, you can link the puzzles button to your interactive puzzles page on your website and it will open in a new window.
Or two, you can assign a puzzles section tag to your pages. Then let our system scan the full edition when it gets uploaded using logic created by our developers. This scan identifies the page or section where puzzles start so clicking the puzzles button will jump the user to the correct page.
How do QR codes work for my e-Edition?
These Quick Response (QR) codes are becoming popular again. When you include a QR code in your newspaper article, you can engage print readers with multimedia experiences. PLUS, the codes will automatically be read in your e-Edition and clickable. Remember, QR codes must be a square shape to be read. We recommend using QR Code Generator or QRCode Monkey. Ask your customer service representative to enable this beta feature.
How do I monetize my e-Edition?
It's easy to monetize your e-Editions. With Audience+, you can put the e-Edition behind a registration or hard paywall to increase subscriptions. In fact, in a recent study we found that paywalls on e-Editions contributed a significant number of conversions (14%) and disproportionately higher revenue (22%). You can also enable ad positions specific to the e-Edition including a new position available with this refresh. Contact your sales representative for more information.
Do the changes to the e-Edition affect what we're able to track in Google Analytics?
Yes, you are now able to track the new elements with specific analytics event tags. This includes anything new that we've introduced such as the puzzles button. For example, you can track how many people are clicking on the puzzles button on a daily basis. Features of the e-Edition that have been optimized or moved are still connected with the same analytics tags. You won't be losing any of the previous tracking functions.
How many editions can you have available in the archives?
You can choose per domain how many days you'd like to keep prior editions in your e-Edition. Some of our partners choose to keep thirty days and some do more. That's totally up to you.
