At BLOX Digital, we believe success starts with finding the right people. The work we do here is changing the local media industry, and these are the people who are making it happen. Today we shine a light on Patrick O'Lone, Senior Director of Software Development.
What is your background?
I started as a full stack developer with Lee Enterprises in 1998 before moving over to BLOX Digital (formerly TownNews) in 2001. Back then, I worked on the original Newsys platform and I oversaw the development of BLOX CMS.
What do you love most about your job?
I like working on new development projects and new software. I really like building CMS platforms (obviously I've been doing that for 20+ years now.) I also enjoy working with the dev team to figure things out and solve problems.
What are you currently working on that you’d like everyone to know more about?
I'm working closely with the data team for Data Insights and with the dev team on the next generation of CMS platforms.
What are you most excited about for the future of the news industry?
For the industry in general, there's a lot of upcoming technology that will help streamline the journalism process and make it easier. There's also technology coming to generate more revenue that takes advantage of personalization. A lot of that is really just around the corner and then it will be available for everyone.
What's something people don't know about you?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughters. The girls are both pretty talented so we spend a lot of time watching them at tumbling or dance. When I do get down time, I enjoy playing video games or watching anime like Sword Art Online.
